Life Legacy


Gerhard A.Geidel age 85, of Mitchell died Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell with Pastor Jerry Troester officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Servicemans Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Pallbearers will be Jason Gardeman, Matt Geidel, Michael Geidel, Josh Andera, Nick Griffith and Tim Moon.

Gerhard Alvin Geidel was born November 8, 1924, Corsica, Douglas County, SD to Alvin and Alma (Geidel) Geidel. Attended school and graduated through the 8th grade.
Gerhard farmed on the family farm until entering the Army, he served in Korea in 1950 and was honorably discharged in 1952. On April 25, 1954 he married Adeline Stampe in Stickney. They farmed in the Stickney area their entire life until retiring in 1987, and moved to Mitchell. He worked at the Graceland Cemetery for five years, helped on the farm and worked for the City of Mitchell.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church serving as Chairman Elder and Head Usher, and member of the American Legion. Gerhard enjoyed woodworking, fishing and his family.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife Adeline; four children John (Mary) Geidel of Mitchell, Barbara (Kevin) Gardeman of Corsica, Gerhard (Sandy) Geidel of Johnstown, CO and Kevin (Lori) Geidel of Stickney; brothers Donald (Gladys) Geidel of Dimock, Alvin Geidel of Mitchell, Harvey Geidel of Parkston; sisters Nelda Neugebauer of Mitchell, Erma Geidel of Loveland, CO and Margaret Scheetz of Mitchell; sister in law Lydia Geidel of Mitchell; brother in law Marvin Hoffman of Loveland, CO; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Gilbert Geidel; sisters Della, Leona and Evelyn; brother in laws Howard Geidel, Raymond Neugebauer and Harlan Scheetz.
