Life Legacy

Roy D. Klinger, age 84 of Sioux Falls, formerly of Alexandria, died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Tuesday, January 18 at Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell with burial at the American Legion Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the funeral at 10:00 AM at Will Funeral Chapel.

Roy, son of William and Marie (Younie) Klinger was born May 27, 1926 in Fulton, SD. He grew up in the Fulton and Alexandria area and attended Fairview school. Roy entered the US Army in 1944 and was discharged in 1945. Roy attended barber school in California following discharge from the Army. Roy was united in marriage with Delores Browen on September 14, 1953 at the United Methodist Church in Alexandria. Roy was a barber in Alexandria at then became employed by the Postal Service in Alexandria in 1957 and worked as a postal clerk and later as a rural carrier until his retirement in 1987. Roy was also a deputy sheriff for Hanson County for many years.

Roy was an avid hunter and golfer. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge and was State President in 1984. He was a member of the El Riad Shrines, Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. Roy and Delores enjoyed traveling in their motor home for several years after retirement and then decided to take up residence in Mesa, AZ until moving to Sioux Falls in 2005.

Grateful for having shared his life is his wife Delores of Sioux Falls, a sister Dorothy (Bob) Campbell of Sioux Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Robert.
